Women in the Bible

Women in the Bible, whether portrayed as persons such as Sarah or Mary, or as a personification such as Lady Wisdom, help us along our faith journey to salvation. We learn from Sarah’s devotion to her husband, Abraham, and from her lies about having expressed a lack of faith that she will bear children in her old age (understandable!). Whether or not Mary was perfect, Catholics typically see her that way. Lady Wisdom plays a powerful role of helping a father guide his son away from the sinful life and into a life of virtue (Prov 8). These and other virtuous women–sung and unsung–have helped men throughout history to live the moral life and unfold Salvation History as part of God’s revelation.
