German Church SSA
Will the Catholic Church soon face another Schism from Germany? We ask this question on the heels of the recent announcement from parishes in nearly 80 cities, that they have conducted blessing ceremonies for same-sex unions in open defiance of the pope and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). Beginning with Charlemagne, who, after receiving the bejeweled crown from Pope Leo III and the title “Emperor of the Romans” (for saving not only Rome but the pope’s life), believed he was the de facto leader of the Catholic Church, then through Martin Luther and the Reformation and this latest defiance, the roots of disunity with Rome run deep in the German church.
