Advent is hope, one that anticipates joy. So, that implies joy has not yet arrived. The prophet Isaiah (“the Lord is Salvation” We italicized “is”, because Christ is Salvation). God’s message of hope and the promise of joy also implies a warning, of the joy we could lose if we don’t accept His offer of freedom. We are in exile, from the sin of the culture and the sins of our individual choices. And because this exile contains much suffering, our hope lies in the only one capable of giving us our freedom–Jesus the Christ. He is coming!
