Epiphany – Part 1

January 3, 2021

“Epiphany of our Lord”, also known as “Little Christmas” and “12th Day of Christmas”, all names given to the season in which we glorify God by giving thanks and praise to the baby Jesus. The liturgical readings tell us, as they always do, the great and royal significance of this season going back to the Hebrew prophets, King David, King Herod and, ultimately, the King of Kings, One who “shall reign forever and ever!”Biblical language and literary style help us to understand that the magi represented the Gentile world’s acknowledgement of and belief in Jesus the Christ; David praying for his son and his heir, Solomon, but ultimately for God’s Son; and, the Holy of Holies prefigured the Catholic Tabernacle.
